Meet the Therapists

C. Karen Stopford
LMHC, AP, MCAP, CCTP, QS

Karen is a licensed mental health counselor and acupuncture physician, as well as a Master Certified Addiction Professional and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. For over a decade she has been helping people heal from complex trauma, addictions, and the emotional and relationship struggles that prevent individuals from leading fulfilling lives. Many people seek her help because the coping skills that once kept them afloat no longer serve them well, and they feel stuck and unable to move forward.

Karen believes lasting recovery and personal growth are made possible by practicing self-compassion, identifying core values, and building on inner resiliency. In practice, she uses a range of techniques including psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, interpersonal, and creative therapies and teaches mindfulness and emotional intelligence skills to help clients reconnect with their inner strength, rebuild relationships, and create a life that feels authentic and balanced. Her style emphasizes compassion, transparency, and collaboration and is grounded in the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal. She works with teens, adults of all ages, and couples to achieve their therapy goals.

Outside of sessions, Karen is the proud mom of three grown children and a grandmother. Her therapy dog, Tara, often accompanies her to the office, while her mischevious cat, Munchkin, guards the house. Gardening, traveling, reading and exploring nature keep Karen inspired—and she considers herself a lifelong student of life and human potential.
